Acne Care
We all long to have beautiful, glowing skin. Yet most of us have had pimples, whiteheads and blackheads mar our complexion, at some time or another. It is especially during these times, that a good care regimen becomes vital. The first step in care is the careful washing of the affected area with warm water and a mild soap, twice a day. This will remove any excess oil or impurities that may otherwise be present, whilst keeping the skin clean. Acne generally affects the face. In such cases, care specialists’ state the importance of cleansing items that touch the face, such as sunglasses or spectacles, thoroughly. Scarves, headbands and hats too, should be free of dirt, wherever possible. In instances where affects other parts of the body, it is imperative that individuals wear clean, loose clothing, for best results. A much overlooked point in care is the use of make-up. If make-up is to be used, then individuals suffering from should ensure that it is hypoallergenic and used within a given time frame, as indicated by expiry dates. Make-up should always be cleansed at night, so that the skin has room to breathe, as this too, will help in the fight against acne. Hair should be clean and tied back whenever possible, decrees most experts in care. This requires little effort but can sometimes pay rich dividends in a good, skin care regimen. Excessive

exposure to sunlight will not only result in red, blotchy skin, but it can also encourage the over-production of sebum. This is said to aggravate acne, and so minimizing sun damage is another part of care that merits considerable attention. Pimples should not be picked or squeezed, as this will simply aggravate and similar conditions, further. This is one of the basics of care, and touching the affected area frequently is also frowned upon, as this too, is said to encourage the spread of bacteria. Some beauticians advocate the use of Benzoyl peroxide or Salicylic acid, as part of the care regimen. Such solutions help remove the bacteria that maybe present on the surface layers of skin. Others may recommend the use of antibiotics or retinoid creams to combat acne. Oral contraceptives too, are known to help in the fight against acne, in certain instances; but such medication should only be taken, if it is prescribed by a professional dermatologist. Admittedly, can be troublesome. Yet it is manageable, if a healthy life style is maintained and a little extra care is taken, to minimize its impact. A qualified dermatologist or a professional beautician would be able to shed more light in this regard, and draft a suitable care regimen, for each individual , depending on his/her age, the severity of the problem and his/her lifestyle.
